the thing is unless you go without for a full quarter they will not notice or care. they know we are chained up and being forced along. stopping even for 1 full quarter will just delay things. you have to flat out boycott something until change is made if you truly want change.

And even a full quarter won't make any difference unless you have thousands of people participating. They're just going to laugh at you.

Not enough people would do this to really have much effect. Despite the efforts of many on the internet, the average person simply doesn't give a shit or really understands what is going on and believes it won't affect them. For example you should see some of the dumbasses at ANN commenting about all this crap going on.

You bastards You stole my sisters horn and stole my reason to live, but that wasnt enough?

Now you have come here, and steal my reason to die, too?!

Ohh I'm in!!

I have enough anime, games, films and music on my storage to last me decades. :P

I think this is a silly thing to do in Europe now though, with this whole crisis thing going on. We need all the sales we can get to get our economy rolling again. If everyone would waste their cash on other stuff than films or anything it would be fine though.

the problem with stuff like this is, even if you get 100.000 people to say "hell yeah, i'll participate", maybe 500 will really do so. maximum!

Be easy for me to do, since I don't desire much from the MPAA or RIAA anymore. So I'm in.

But sadly the amount of money they'll lose from this will be less than what they use on lobbying, for the same quarter. It's sickening how much they spend to keep us dependent on an outdated and unfair to the artists system, instead of building for the future going with technology.

I think it is foolish to think this will work. I personally can participate in this, having a large supply of unwatched anime, but you would still need a lot of people for it to even be doable. However, the general mass has the tendency to only look out for themselfs and will not sacrifice themselves in this way since they generally believe no one else will join and it will fail anyways. Futhermore, one month isn't enough time for a successful boycott:

the thing is unless you go without for a full quarter they will not notice or care. they know we are chained up and being forced along. stopping even for 1 full quarter will just delay things. you have to flat out boycott something until change is made if you truly want change.

in short, the idea looks good on paper, but doomed for failure

also, on another note, why should we stop the downloads as well when they are the reason the media companies are lobbying in the first place

Who on earth thought this brainstorm up?! Whoever it was needs to go back to the john and shit out a better idea!

Besides the fact this will never pan out, I am all against internet censorship (and any other kind), but campaigning against what happened to MegaUpload is nothing short of a spoiled, idiot 12 year old taking a temper tantrum because someone pulled his mother's teat away!

What is it with people who act like their rights have been trampled on? What MegaUpload and every other similar site did was willfully partake in the unlawful distribution of copyrighted material. The same goes for all of us who downloaded from them. We all knew this day was coming, and we all knew the reason why: we were all breaking the law!

Will it stop us from pirating? LOL hell no! Learn to adapt, as will happen, but don't go crying like an idiot about it, or try to justify wrong-doings by being a lemming and following whatever moron pops up on the internet acting like he's doing you a favor!

It's not Megaupload that I'm upset about, but their actions pushing SOPA and PIPA. Just the idea of such legislation makes me furious. But I agree, using it as a revenge for MU is quite silly.
