Check out my new bed guys.

It is a Tatami platform with a (real) futon on top.

Here is the platform

Awesome. I've always wanted to try sleeping in a futon -- is it comfy?

I don't know if they're all the same, but think of a very dense foam pillow. Comfortable enough, I guess, but I much prefer my Sealy.

Well considering I just got one I would say, yes they are! I love them! However, only if you like hard beds. You are only sleeping on a few inches of cushioning and tatami after all! Also kakebuton are so warm and comfy, more a winter or cold climate thing.

My mattress is a Sealy! They are great. I wanted bigger and Japanese though. They are very different to a foam mattress.

Mine is a 90/10% cotton/polyester blend to retain its shape longer. Manufacturer (family run business in Japan) said that futons filled with 100% natural products (cotton, wool, down) will need replacing/re-filling every few years due to flat spots occurring in the shoulder and bottom areas!

I just found this link which talks about why there are not uncomfortable.

Oh, I really hope your bed breaks in the middle of the act. I mean, imagine the size of the merit badge you'd get, "Oh, yeah -- we were going at it so hard that the bed broke!"

Definitely something worth bragging about. ;)

Yeah it is huge compared to my room. A double bed was perfect. This is a king!

The frame is 2100 x 1900 x 300 and the mat area is 2000 x 1800! This being in mm.

Lol'd, all the best Zach.... hahahaha

And nice looking bed, I rather have a proper mattress over that since I can't sleep on anything hard.

It is not as hard as people think. Though it is hard compared to a lot of beds. It is not for everyone!

I have no idea on the exact comparisons with my Sealy posturepedic mattress but, proper futons are pretty good for your back!
