It would be dodgy if it was their backbone. "We are selling you a service we cannot actually provide"

When I was looking into fibre for my grandparents, I rang up the company and they said, we would not be able to provide what ever speed I asked about, they then told me the best. So went with that, saving them about $30 a month! Companies should have to do this. Rather than, "hey this guy got the fastest fibre plan and really the infrastructure only supports ADLS+, sucker"

Let's hope they have mistakenly capped you

It seems those speedtest.net servers are just lacking in capacity or that flash app doesn't measure it correctly (I've tried a bunch of different servers they all gave similar low values).
But I was able to upload via IRC at my full 25Mbps just fine. I guess they might be capping certain protocols. Though they won't get away with that for long seeing as we have net neutrality laws in this country.

If 8mbps = 1MB/s = 1000 KB/s, then...

Download is 20 KB/s and upload is 6.25 KB/s.

Jesus Christ, I'd kill myself if I had that internet.

That is what i got originally for doing 0.16/8 and got 0.02 which is 20KB/s i just didn't want to believe it, and chalked it up to bad math, seems i was right though.

Maker guide you WhiteLotus. How are you browsing the internet, i was screaming at my dad because it was taking more than a second to open Youtube. Now i feel like a spoiled brat.

Seeing as you're still alive... You've never had a dial-up connection before? :P

I was a kid back when my family had dialup, so I never really "noticed" it.

Man, Lotus, I bet it would be more cost and time effective to pay someone $50 to fill up a hard drive and mail it to you, haha.

I think the landlord's Xfinity package is nominally 24mbps down and 4 mbps up, but realistically it's 20mbps down at most, and my network chokes up if I do anything more than 1.5 up. She gets the internet/phone/TV package, so I don't know the internet standalone price.

I get about 20Mbps down and around 1.4Mbps up. I think it runs me around $50 a month, but Internet in my area is pretty slow and overpriced compared to areas around me.

That said, I have no real right to complain given your current speeds.

I don't pay for it, my dad does and he pays around £35 a month for it and seeing as its a business line i don't get hit with caps at peak times.

Many countries out there have a lot of shitty internet. It appears Indonesia is one them!

I am looking forward to our 'fibre to the home' upgrade with the NBN. Though if the current government gets voted out (which is quite possible) we may not be seeing the plans redrawn :(
